In America, the early performing arts accomplishments of young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely be in the child prodigy category. This is a natural trait for a girl of Irish descent, who was surrounded in her early days by talented family members and parents. Maureen entered into this nurturing home on August 17, 20, in Ranelagh. She was the daughter of Marguerita Lilburn FitzSimons, was an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based firm and also owned a stake in "The Shamrock Rovers," an eminent Irish soccer team. Maureen was the second of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was an athlete at heart and enjoyed playing tough sports. This passion was combined with an equally natural gift of performing. This was apparent when she won every Feis for theatre and drama which Ireland could provide. Her acceptance at the Abbey Theater by age 14 She then continued to pursue her dream of opera as well as classical theater and singing.
